this weekend is supposed to be my downtime. i used a few hours of it to play a PC game.
a truly worthwhile game.

summary: This particular story follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts’ attempt to fulfill the dream of the dying elderly man, Johnny. In their mission to do so, they traverse backwards through the man’s memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes.
With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny’s past is revealed. And as the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.
that summary is from the official homepage. i can't attempt to make a summary without risking spoiling the game for you. but take my word for it that the dialogue, the characters, the music, the MUSIC, are so very worth it.
it's very lightweight (the installer is around 70MB) so you don't need to have a powerful PC to play it. it's also very affordable, at around US$12. the gameplay is fun though not all that challenging, so people who are after thrills and mind-benders may not feel like they're getting their money's worth. instead, think of it as buying a movie. and US$12 is a huge bargain for a very good movie. gameplay is estimated at 4.5 hours: just the right amount of time i'm willing to sit through for a great interactive film.
if you want to try it out first, you can play the game for free with a 1-hour demo at the official homepage.
i also urge you to get the soundtrack. the music is deeply affecting; the sort of thing you associate sad and nostalgic memories with. it's currently going at US$5.02, and 50% of the proceeds go to charity.
many thanks to my sister for making me play it ♥ now i want to try their other games. quintessence seems especially interesting.
